GE Refrigerator Water Filters

GE has one specific trap worth knowing before you order: XWF and XWFE are different filters, the names differ by a single letter, and buying the wrong one is the most common return in this category.

Search by part number

Tap the number printed on your old cartridge to see current listings and prices on Amazon.ca.

Part number Also known as Fits
MWF MWFP, GWF, SmartWater Long-running GE cartridge, very wide model coverage View price
XWF Newer GE models — not the XWFE version View price
XWFE Latest GE models with RFID chip — XWF will not work

The XWF and XWFE problem

The XWFE carries an electronic chip the fridge checks for. An XWF fitted to a fridge expecting XWFE may be rejected or trigger a persistent filter warning. The reverse can also cause problems.

Check the printed number on your old cartridge carefully, and read product listings just as carefully — sellers are not always precise about which they are shipping.

MWF is the safe one

If your fridge takes MWF, you have the easiest filter in this category to source. It has been in production for years, is widely stocked, and appears under several equivalent names — MWFP, GWF and SmartWater all refer to compatible cartridges.
