Samsung Refrigerator Water Filters

Samsung is the brand people most often order the wrong filter for, because the cartridges look broadly similar and the model range is large. Three part numbers cover most Canadian households, and they are not interchangeable.

Which one do you need?

The reliable answer is on the cartridge itself — pull the old one and read the number printed on the body. Failing that, check inside the fridge compartment: Samsung often puts a sticker on the door frame or ceiling naming the correct filter.

If you only have the fridge model number, Samsung’s support site will match it. Do not go by shape. DA29-00020B and HAF-QIN both twist into similar housings and both are white cylinders.

Genuine or compatible?

Third-party Samsung-compatible filters cost roughly half as much and dominate search results — AQUA CREST, ICEPURE and PUREPLUS are the common names. Many work acceptably. The trade-offs are that Samsung may decline a warranty claim on the water system, and quality varies more than price indicates. If you go compatible, insist on NSF/ANSI 42 certification at minimum.

When to change it

Samsung specifies six months. Household size matters more — heavy users hit the capacity limit sooner. Slower dispensing, a returning chlorine smell, or ice tasting of the freezer all mean it is overdue. The indicator light is a timer counting days, not a sensor measuring water.
