Fifteen years of Canadian water filtration guidance

We have been writing about home water filtration for Canadian households since September 2010 — long enough to watch entire product lines appear, get renamed, and disappear.

Who we are

DrinkingWaterFilter.ca is an independent guide to home water filtration, written for Canadian households and run from the Greater Toronto Area — Toronto, Scarborough, Markham, Brampton and Mississauga.

We are not a retailer. We do not hold stock, process orders or handle returns. What we do is explain what different filters actually remove, what they cost to run, and which one suits a given problem — then point you to a seller.

Our history

The first page went live on 9 September 2010, covering the water filter systems available in Canada at the time. The first article, on the importance of clean water, followed five days later.

Over the years that followed we documented the filter market as it stood: the Aquasana AQ-4000 countertop, the AQ-4500 and AQ-4501 under-counter systems, the Rhino EQ-300 whole-house unit, Brita and PUR faucet filters, Kenmore and Everpure cartridges.

Most of those model numbers no longer exist. Manufacturers renamed their ranges, retailers closed, and prices moved. In 2026 we went back through every page, marked the discontinued models as discontinued, and linked each to whatever replaced it — rather than quietly deleting the history or leaving readers pointed at products they can no longer buy.

Those old pages are still here. If you own an AQ-4000 from 2013 and need to know what cartridge it takes, that information should not vanish because the manufacturer moved on.

How we work

We say when something is gone

If a product has been discontinued, the page says so, shows the old price struck through, and links to the current equivalent.

We state the Canadian cost

Orders from US retailers attract duties, taxes and brokerage fees on delivery. Most sites writing for a North American audience never mention it. We put it on every relevant page.

We do not quote stale prices

Prices in our copy are date-stamped, and where possible we link to the live price rather than repeating a number that will be wrong in six months.

How we are funded

This site is supported by affiliate commission. If you buy through a link here, we may earn a percentage at no additional cost to you. We are an Amazon Associate and also work with Aquasana through the Rakuten Advertising network.

That arrangement is worth being plain about: we earn more when you buy, which is a real incentive to recommend buying. Our answer to it is to tell you when the cheaper option is better, when a product has been discontinued, and when a filter will not solve your problem — because a reader who trusts the site is worth more than a single sale.
